It’s a basket full of “Paws up, y’all!” Drum and his rattie.
What we have here is a mama who was minding her own business, snoozing on that rug, and all the kittens tried to belly up to the milk bar. Then mama got up, and the kittens were all “What happened?!”
It’s a Drum-Ouiser pie (my favorite)!
Drum got up in the window bed, and M’Lynn told him to behave himself.
Shelby shows off her claws, her belly, and her big blue eyes, all at once. She’s a multi-tasker!
We have another paws-up-y’all situation here with Clairee, wedged between the tunnel bed and the wall. As you do!
Drum’s all “SMILE!” (Actually, he was silent meowing, but it looks like he’s grinning.)
Clairee is just a perfect little muffin.
M’Lynn came through her spay just fine yesterday – we were back home by 11:00, and she had eaten, used the litter box, and settled down for a nap by noon. The kittens did not notice a single thing different about her – they did try to nurse a few times, but she wasn’t up for that, though she groomed them all before blocking their access to the milk bar.

This picture of Dewey is from 2018 (if you are a newer reader, Dewey decided a few years ago that he does not like to have his picture taken, and if he so much as suspects that I’m thinking about taking his picture, he vamooses into another dimension.) He still has the best Ears of Annoyance ever, even if he won’t let me take a picture of them!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
Ouiser at the milk bar (and doesn’t M’Lynn look pleased?)
M’Lynn is outta here in a bit for her spay, hooray, hooray!
As I’ve mentioned before, back in 2010 we had a litter of kittens with the Steel Magnolias names – there were 5 of them. Drum and Clairee were adopted together, then returned a year later due to a breakup. They were with us again for a few days, then went to Petsmart where they were very quickly adopted – again, together.
Tamra emailed last week to let me know that she thought Drum and Clairee (Magnolias2010!) would very much appreciate the reuse of the Magnolias naming theme. She also said: “Drum and Clairee were sweet, loving characters that this household will forever miss. We lost Clairee far too early in her young life. Drum passed earlier this year and we were very fortunate to have had him in our lives longer than we did his sister. Still it was not long enough, never is, is it?”
That’s sweet Clairee (10/15/2009 – 03/26/2015) in the cat tree, and Drum (10/15/2009 – 02/04/2023) in the window. They were so very loved, and I’m glad that they got their happy ending. ❤️
(Thanks, Tamra!)
M’Lynn is through her spay surgery, and we are back home – we’ve been home for about an hour, actually. She’s eaten and used the litter box, and all the kittens said “Yeah, that’s Mama. So?” No floof suits today, yay (but also alas.) The kittens did try to nurse, and she let them know that she’s got a packed schedule and can’t fit them in at the moment, sorry. M’Lynn is not at all wobbly, but she is still a bit hiiigh, so she keeps sitting and staring off into other dimensions.
Note: the incision is closed with surgical glue; we don’t use cones for post-spay/neuter cats and kittens and never have, though of course I keep a close eye on them while they’re healing. The vet uses reversible anesthesia, which is why we’re able to get back home so soon.

Drum’s (mostly) silent meows are just the absolute cutest. He CAN meow (especially if it’s time for breakfast), but I’m pretty sure he knows how absolutely adorable the tiny squeaky (or silent) meow is. He’s no fool!
It’s a Shelby-Clairee pie! (My favorite!)
Good night innernets. (Shelby)

How kind of the family of Clairee I and Drum I to send those kitties’ story! It is very encouraging!
How sweet is it, the elder Drum and Clairee’s Mom reached out to you? Former foster updates are so wonderful, even if they are bittersweet.
So glad to know that Drum and Claiiree had such a loving family.
