I had rotator cuff surgery on November 4th, and have pre-written and scheduled posts for the next three weeks while I recover.

A quick note to let y’all know that I came through surgery just fine and I am in no pain at the moment; thank God for painkillers!
Posted on Facebook last night:
I am about to go to sleep in a drug induced haze, but I just want y’all to know that they did a nerve block on my arm before surgery and it is, bar none, the creepiest thing that I have ever experienced in my entire life.
My hand is just DANGLING there. I do not trust my creepy dead arm at all, and would not be surprised if it animated itself at some point during the night and committed terrible crimes. (Which would be an excellent plot for Fred’s next novel, but I suspect it’s already been done.)
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, I appreciate them. Good night!

PS: what I did not post on Facebook last night is that after they did the nerve block, but before they did surgery, SOMEONE was unspeakably mean to me. My arm had slipped so that it was touching the side of the bed, which was cold, so I asked him to move it back into position (my arm was numb, but I could still feel the ends of my fingers). He did, but only after he freaked me out, by using my own hand to touch my face. Several times. It was so so so so so so CREEPY. I can stand pain, but creepiness I cannot. I’m surprised that the nurses didn’t come running to save me, given how loudly I was protesting.

Look what I found, stuck away in a folder (I swear, I am so disorganized sometimes)!
That’s Badger and Skinny Pete, before Combo joined them! They were about 11 days old here.
Not the clearest pictures, but I think you get an idea of the cute.

If there’s one thing Dennis can do and do well…
He’s also pretty talented at looking gorgeous, don’t ya think?

SOMEONE needs a beating. Revenge is best served cold so he had better sleep with one eye open from here on out! Glad to hear that you are not in pain and that the surgery went well.
Awwwww….Badger and Skinny Pete…how precious!
Hello Dennis. He has the prettiest eyes!!
Enjoy the meds Dearie. I second the thought that someone had best sleep with one eye open. Unspeakably creepy but , I must admit, pretty darn funny.
lol… you & Fred crack me up!
Dennis has the same gorgeous eyes that my Monkey has!
Haven’t you ever woke up in the night panicking because someone’s hand was on your face, only to find your arm had gone to sleep and it was your own hand!??
Have a great day and a speedy recovery!!
Well you are married to a horror writer, after all. 🙂
Glad to hear surgery went well. Thank you so much for pre-posting to keep your fans from going through withdrawal!
Hey, glad the surgery went well! Yeah, I remember when I had my knee replaced a few years ago, I’d had an epidural and a femoral nerve block and was both fascinated and creeped out that I couldn’t feel a thing. I could have stayed awake for the surgery and watched it on the camera screen (um, no) if I’d wanted to. Them be some powerful meds they give…
(I was convinced, once in my hospital room, that the pictures of kittens (!) hanging on the wall behind my bed were meowing at me. Good times.)
I’ve been thinking about you. I’m glad to hear you are done with the shoulder surgery and have some nice medicine to keep the pain away. My advice is to not overdo and keep track of your symptoms. If you feel uneasy about your healing, call your doctor. I’m sending gentle hugs and love.
I’ve had 4 separate nerve blocks in my spine because my feet and legs were on fire. They really helped my sciatica.
Oh and wow! Look at all the adoptions you had this year. Do you keep track of how many each year? I was wondering what the most adoptions in a year you have had.
I laughed audibly at the hand touching your face. too funny! Hope you heal up fast, and glad to hear that all went well in surgery!
I’m pretty certain she meant it was Fred. Otherwise I agree, it would not be funny at all.
Sherwin Williams needs to come up with a new paint color and call it Dennis Eyes. Gorgeous!
Hope your shoulder healing goes well!
She’s got Bette Dennis eyes…
when i had carpal tunnel surgery done- on both wrists a yr apart- they had to squeeze the blood out of my arm so it was a bloodless surgery. most weirdly painful thing I’d experienced. they used a tight bandage and wound it around and around all the way up then put on this rubber tubing to hold the blood at bay at the top of my arm. THEN they froze my arm.
can you say ow?
Looking at those old pics of Jake and Rhymer. I think we need a collection of his best looney eyes and we can take a vote on the LOONIEST of his looney eyes.
I’m glad everything is ok! Get well soon, Robyn! 😀
What are Badger and Skinny Pete sitting in? It looks for all the world like a felt-lined pie plate!
The Hand!!!!! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082497/ Fred IS a dead ringer for Michael Caine, after all.
Looks like you’re not the only one with disconnected body parts – Dennis’s molecular integrity seem to go very casual when he is lounging.
We’re glad you’re doing well!!
I think you need to give Fred a mannequin arm for Christmas
