Amagash – are Jeff and Sydney smoke tabbies?
I don’t know, actually! I think not, only because after looking at some pictures of smoke tabbies, I think the lack of a smoky undercoat means they’re not. But perhaps that’ll change as they get older?

Are the kittens still nursing? They are so active, I don’t know if they take a break and nurse or are they just about done.
They sure are! I think they’re nursing less, but I’m pretty sure that they’ll nurse as long as Tina lets them (and in my experience, mamas will let their kittens nurse FOREVER… Hat tip to Katriane (now Neko), the one mother cat I had who decided she was DONE and cut off her kittens without a second thought.)

How’s Newt doing? Is he maintaining his weight?
He’s doing surprisingly well – every now and then I look at him and think “He’s so skinny!” and make Fred weigh him. And every time, he’s at almost exactly the same weight as the last time we weighed him. (He’s maintained his weight of just over 9 1/2 pounds for at least the last year, probably longer. I think the fact that we give him food if he so much as looks at us sideways helps!)

You should do calendars this year devoted to the Fruitasan & the Pink Chair.
Let me get the regular calendars done and then I’ll think about specialty ones!

Tina seems to be a particularly attentive and protective mother….almost a helicopter mom… or are most mother cats this way? She seems to be on the alert and watching the kittens even when she could be taking a break. Maybe she had kittens in the past in environments that were not so great?
Most mother cats are very protective, but she is especially so. I don’t know if she had a previous litter or not (we think she’s about a year old) or is just super protective because they’re her first litter, but I am pleased to announce that she is finally calming down a little bit. If they squeak or cry she’s right there, but for the most part she’ll just watch them run around the room.

Good Lord! They shaved half Tina’s hair off for her spay!?
I know, I was very surprised to see that when I picked her up!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is Tina your most talkative Mamma?
I believe so! She MAY be a tiny bit quieter now that her spay is done and over with, but she still talks plenty!
Imagine my surprise when I walked into the room and found that Richie was up at the top of the little cat tree (which is located on the opposite side of the room from where they usually spend all their time.) His little tilted head is the CUTEST.
“I blame you for this,” said Tina. “He is NEVER gonna be able to get down from there!”
It wasn’t the most graceful way to do it…
Richie in my lap, and Carmy leaning in for a tussle.
Jeff’s curled up and havin’ a think.
Carmy climbs in for a snuggle.
Here comes Richie, reliving his birth experience.
Rocco the garage cat ignores the 6 comfy beds scattered all over the garage for the MUCH MORE COMFY top of Fred’s car.
Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
Happy Gotcha Day to former fosters Oleander (formerly Constance, 2020) and Rhus (Rochefort)!
Cat says: its been 4 years of muffenry!!! it dousnt seem like that long. oleander and rhus are celibrating their gotcha day with some new toys, new colers and a new scratcher.
they have begon to request to watch the birds evry single morning at the door. so we have made that part of our daily routine. we get up. get muffinbreakfast. i make some tea and an egg while they eat. then we all have breakfast by the front door where they birdfeeder hangs. they meep at chipmunks and birds and i sip my tea. if its a nice sunny morning i will often sit abit further back so they can roll arund in the sunshine while watching the birds.
they help me with my costuming. escort me threw the house. hold me down on the couch while reading so i dont float away. and have nightly zooms and toytime befor e have muffindinner and head to bed.
its been a very exciting 4 years for us here in muffinland and we are excited to see what muffenry we get into the coming years. what new muffinjobs they will decide to take on and what sillynewss they will get into .
currently there is a lolymonster meeping under the couch awaiting toes to grab and a sleepy rhusy in the window. it is a good day.
hope all is well and evryone is having a lovly day,
Cat, Oleander and Rhus
(Thank you Cat!)
The way the white fur on Jeff’s legs stands out (that fur is not longer than the black fur, it’s just the contrast that makes it look that way), he reminds me of a sparkleball toy.
I pulled this video off the Nest camera the other night. This is a move I call “the scrape” – Tina wants some alone time, so she leads Sydney to another cuddle buddy (Carmy) and leaves her there, and returns to the pie plate alone.
19 years after I took this picture, it’s still one of my very very very favorites.
That black kitten jumping for the feather teaser was a foster named Barrett; the orange kitten was Sad Eyes (I did not name these kittens) and the little tortie was their sister Little Cal. Barrett became permanent resident Tom Cullen (Tommy) and Sad Eyes became permanent resident Sugarbutt. They were the best cats ever, and passed away about a month apart in 2015 at the age of 10.
I pulled these clips off the Nest cam. In the first section, the kittens are playing and Tina is calling them to the milk bar (and how rude, they’re ignoring her!) In the second (and third) section, the kittens are playing and then Tina gets involved and startles Carmy.
Tina’s face is cracking me UP. (That’s Sydney behind her in mid-hop.)
Good night innernets. (From left: Richie, Sydney (back), Carmy (middle), and Jeff (front.) Not one of these kittens is remotely sleepy, but I’m going to bed. So good night!)
The picture of Jeff and Richie ready to tussle should be a favorite. It’s a great pic. Maybe even use for the cover photo or actually anywhere.
