When a permie gets their wings, does the dynamic shift in the rest of the clowder? I’ve noticed changes big and small when we say goodbye here.
It does seem to change with each loss… At the moment, Charlie and Khal are acting pretty much as they always did, but Alice seems a little more at loose ends – she’s out more, wanting to be petted, and talking to us. She and Newt always got along just fine, so I’m sure she misses him. (I’m not entirely sure that Charlie and Khal realize he’s gone, though they – mostly Khal – used to spend a lot of time snoozing on the same bed.)

Jeff checks out the water fountain (which has been there for ohhhh two or three weeks? But is still endlessly fascinating!)
But the real action is in the background, with Sydney leaping into the jungle cube!
Line ’em up! The tilted heads are killing me. From left: Carmy, Sydney, Richie & Jeff.
The all-important mid-morning nap time.
Carmy moves up from the lower level to join his siblings.
When they’re all piled up together like this on the floor (specifically that rug, for some reason), it’s a sign that the milk bar has come and gone. (I think a weansie is in Tina’s near future; she’s clearly not going to cut them off.)
Jeff’s keeping Sydney clean. It’s a big job, and he’s up for it!
Carmy’s hanging out in the loaf pan, playing with the track toy. As you do!

Rocco in the tree, looking down at the squirrel.
And the squirrel keeping an eye on Rocco. (I eventually went out and shooed Rocco away and the squirrel ran off.)
Someone recently asked where Trixie has gone. I thought I’d mentioned this, but perhaps not – back in the spring, around the time Carson showed up, a very old neighborhood bully cat we’d been calling Moby (he was VERY unneutered) disappeared. He belonged to a family who lives about half a block away, and after Trixie stopped showing up here, she started showing up THERE. So it looks like Trixie found a new home. We see her from time to time – Fred sees her when he’s walking in the early morning hours, and I saw her yesterday when I was watering some muscadines on the edge of our property – so she’s fine (and well fed), just decided she liked life over there instead of over here, I guess. FINE BY ME.
(It’s entirely possible that she belonged to that family all along, but was run off by Moby and now that he’s gone life is good again over there. It’s also entirely possible that she came from somewhere else and “adopted” them the way she “adopted” us three years ago. I don’t know, and I’m not askin’.)
Also, Rocco will in this year’s Permanent Residents’ calendar which will now be title “Permanent residents and Rocco the freeloader.” (Yeah, yeah, they’re all freeloaders. Shush.)

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
In case you missed it on the blog this morning, Forgotten Felines has gotten an application for Richie & Carmy (together) and Sydney & Jeff (together.) There haven’t been any inquiries on Tina yet, but hopefully her people will come along soon!
Forgotten Felines of Huntsville is accepting applications for Tina! Email info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire. (Description below.)
Tina (DOB 8/14/23) came to us from Huntsville Animal Services, where she’d been turned in as either a stray or an owner turn-in, we’re not sure. Along with her came her three kittens, Sydney, Richie and Jeff. We had a kitten, Carmy, who had tragically lost his mother and needed a mother and siblings. Tina and her kittens fit the bill. Tina didn’t hesitate to take on Carmy and care for him as one of her own. She did a wonderful job with him – with them all – and now it’s time for her to find her forever home where SHE can be the baby!
Tina is a very sweet, friendly, playful and talkative girl. She is tiny at just over 6 1/2 pounds, but is loaded with personality. (She is very small-framed, so it’s likely she’ll stay small.) She’s got opinions and isn’t afraid to share them. She tends to be more talkative in new situations and quieter once she’s more comfortable, but if she wants something she is more than happy to let you know about it. She’s super playful, enjoys jumping and running and chasing ping pong balls. She loves to bat spring toys around and she looooves catnip toys. She likes to be picked up and held on your shoulder and petted, she likes to sit next to you or in your lap and be petted, and… well, she just likes to be petted! She enjoys watching birds out the window, sitting in the sun, and keeping you company. She would be okay as an only cat, or – if introduced properly and very slowly – would likely be fine joining a home with another cat or cats. She has been spayed, vaccinated, and ID chipped, and is ready to go now.
We are located in Huntsville, Alabama; out of area adoptions are allowed, but adopters must come here to complete the adoption since Tina is a terrible driver and thinks she knows better than any ol’ GPS.
Email Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at INFO (at) FHSV.ORG to inquire!

We’ve got Richie and Jeff arching up at each other (SKEERY!), Carmy not sharing his toy, Jeff fighting with the jungle cube, Mama not sharing HER toy, and a whole lot of tussling and running.
Jeff fits perfectly in the pink Adirondack now. So grown up!

I don’t know how you keep coming up with new explanations of why adopters must come to Huntsville, but I thoroughly enjoy chuckling at each and every one of them.
I’m glad you enjoy them. 🙂
Yay for adoptions pending on the cuties! Sending an extra scritch and pat to Alice.
Will Natalie be in one of next year’s calendars? I miss her and her sweet face. She had the most compassionate look I think I’ve ever seen in a cat. Thanks.
Yes, she’ll be in the “All fosters” calendar, and there will also be a calendar that’s all her (with a little Carmy at the end)
Just having a moment here realizing how long I’ve been following you — since you had 14 (iirc) permanent residents back in ye old Crooked AcreS days. Not to mention George and Gracie et al.
My, my, my – how time flies!
It certainly does!
I can’t wait to see this year’s calendar selection!
Has Sydney discovered her own tail yet?
Not yet, but she’s discovered everyone else’s tail!
