It was an action-packed weekend, to say the least. On Saturday…
Ouiser was adopted and went home! She went locally, about half an hour from me, and so I delivered her myself. It went very well, I got to get a peek at her new big brother Waffle, and from all reports her first weekend home went very well. Her name is now Muffin and you can see her on Facebook here, and on Instagram here.
On Sunday…
Drum, Clairee and Shelby were adopted – together! – and went home to South Carolina! Now, you might think I was keeping a very exciting and interesting fact from you – that all three kittens were going home together – but I did NOT. What happened was when Kara filled out the application for Shelby, she said that if Drum and Clairee were still available when she came to pick up Shelby, she would take them too. But she didn’t want to grab them up if there was someone else who desperately wanted them, she would wait and see if they were meant to be hers. I was fine with that. Maybe they’d go home with Shelby, maybe they’d end up being adopted elsewhere. We were very namaste and “let’s just see” around here.
And then last week was ONE OF THOSE WEEKS and I kind of… forgot. (I am NOT losing my mind, YOU are losing YOUR mind.) So in my mind, Drum and Clairee were going to have to go to Petsmart. But I knew Petsmart is pretty full right now, so Drum and Clairee would be here until a cage came available (and I hoped that in the time we were waiting for room to open up for them, that someone would see their profiles, fall in love, and apply to adopt them.)
Then Saturday morning Brittany reminded me that Kara had said she would take all three kittens. I thought about it all day – maybe Kara had changed her mind? Should I ask, or just let it go? What do I doooo? Finally, late Saturday night I emailed Kara and asked, while telling her that there was NO PRESSURE AT ALL, I totally understood if she’d changed her mind, because going from 4 cats to 7 is a pretty big deal. But as you can probably guess by now, she did want them!
She came yesterday morning to get them, and I was very smart. Before she came, I put the kittens in the dining room and shut the doors so that they’d be contained to one room. Kara showed up, I let her in, we walked into the dining room and… zero kittens. I finally figured out where they had gone and in the end Shelby and Clairee were easy to grab and put in the carrier with the use of a Churu, but Drum took a lot more work (I had to get on the floor, push the cabinet we use as a pantry out from the wall, then reach under and PUSH Drum out the other side, then grab him once he was partway out. The entire time, I had a Churu in my hand trying to get him to come out on his own, and he kept trying to grab the Churu with his grabby paws. It was kind of funny IN RETROSPECT, but at the time I was not amused. There was a lot of swearing, and I’m not sure all that swearing was in my mind. Sorry, Kara!)
I am so thrilled that the three of them have gone home together, and I know that Kara will have so much fun with them (and perhaps over time their new brothers and sisters will decide they’re not so bad!) Kara has a private Instagram account, right here – request to follow her, and she will approve your request when she gets a chance. If Instagram isn’t your thing, don’t worry – I’m sure Kara will be fine with me sharing pictures occasionally.
Also, Drum will be getting a new name – likely Murphy – Clairee will probably be Chloe, and Shelby will stay Shelby! (Shelby is the only one of the kittens who actually knows her own name, so I think that’s perfect!)

The rest of the Ouiser, Drum, Clairee and Shelby pics I took are in this post.
And Ouiser is so very pleased with herself.
Clairee’s all “We’re in the kitchen. Must be time to eat, no?”
Drum, wondering if it was time to snuggle.
Drum at nap time (too bad he never learned to relax!)
Saturday when I got out the carrier to take Ouiser home, Drum had to check it out.
Shelby, looking surprised (and Drum in the background.)
Drum, Shelby and Clairee napping without me (RUDE.)
Their last Churu time at Love & Hisses.
Literally the last picture I took of them – Kara was pulling into the driveway as I was taking this picture!

Huey’s giving me the hairy eyeball.
Louie shows the brush what-for.
Dewey says “You can brush my belly if you want to, lady.”
Louie and Huey think I make an excellent climbing gym.
Huey, Dewey and Louie are off to the vet this morning (I’m dropping them off and they will work them in when they can.) Louie’s back end is just a mess – we did try to get him in to see the vet last week, but they were so slammed (because of the bad weather the week before) that today’s the earliest they could see him. Huey and Dewey aren’t in the bad shape he is, but the diarrhea is not going AWAY the way it should be, so since he’s going anyway, they’ll go too. I am tired of butt-bathing poor Louie, and he is very tired of it too – hopefully the vet can figure out what’s going on, and we can get these three feeling better.
I say “feeling better”, but they don’t seem to actually feel all that bad – they are playing like crazy things, eating well, and now all three of them can get into the tub and race around whenever they want – and they DO. Once they’re doing better, I will move them into the foster room so that they can have some REAL room to run, and cat trees to climb, and they will have SO much fun. I’m looking forward to it!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) this weekend.
I’ve been meaning to do a weight update on the kittens for days, and am finally now getting around to it. So, clockwise from lower left:
Drum, who weighed 1.38 pounds (623.7 g) when we got him at the beginning of November, now weighs 5.5 pounds (2.49 kg).
Clairee, who weighed 1.5 pounds (680 g) now weighs 5.3 pounds (2.4 kg).
Ouiser, who weighed 1.5 pounds (680 g) now weighs 5 pounds (2.27 kg).
And last but not least, Shelby, who weighed just 5 ounces (142 g) is weighing in at 3.9 pounds (1.77 kg).
Drum, Clairee and Ouiser turned 18 weeks old on Wednesday (and all three are well within the normal range for their age). Shelby turned 16 weeks old on Wednesday, and she, too, is well within the normal range! 🎉
Former fosters! Orange and white tabby Pete (who was Marshall when we fostered him in 2014) and his sister Lucy (who was Monday).
We didn’t foster her, but one night then-foster Dennis escaped the house and was gone overnight. When he came back the next morning, this little black and white kitten was with him. We didn’t have room for her, but Challenger’s House – who I was fostering for at the time – took her. Monday ended up at Petsmart at the same time as Marshall and his brothers. His brothers were adopted out, leaving Marshall in need of a friend, and so he and Monday shared a cage. And they ended up adopted together! Now she is 10 (!) and he’s about to be 10, and they are still BFFs, and residents of Oregon. Talk about a happy ending!
(Thanks Orrin!)

Ouiser makes sure Drum stays clean. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!
Paws UP, y’all! (Huey. And no, he didn’t put himself in my lap, but he stayed there when I flipped him onto his back and rubbed his belly!)

Ouiser’s got the moves! (This video was made before the kittens were spayed/neutered on Wednesday.)

I clipped out some of Ouiser’s fabulous moves from the video above and slowed them wayyyy down. My slowed-down laughs are cracking me UP.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned that we have a Roomba (robot vacuum) downstairs. My favorite thing about the Roomba (in addition to the fact that it means I can go longer without having to vacuum) is that if it sees something it doesn’t recognize, it takes a picture and then asks me to look through all the pictures it took and asks whether it’s a temporary obstacle or something permanent. The pictures are always of one of the cats or Fred’s foot as he walks by; lately, there’ve been a lot of pictures of the kittens, who are not entirely sure what to make of the Roomba. (They’re not scared; they’re curious, but not curious enough to jump onto it for a ride.) Top, left to right: Ouiser in the front, and Shelby and Drum on the cat tree, Drum, and Drum. Bottom: Drum, Ouiser and Clairee, and Clairee. I guess Shelby kind of avoids the Roomba.
(Side note: I like the Roomba – it doesn’t do the BEST vacuuming job in the world, it doesn’t get in the corners and of course doesn’t pull out the recliners and vacuum behind them (in other words, it doesn’t do a GOOD job like I would), but it keeps the mess under control for the most part so that I can avoid vacuuming as often. I bought it on a Christmas sale in 2022 – it’s a Roomba j7+ (7550) – and it was a good choice. I would, however, never ever ever set it to vacuum on a schedule because: cats.)
Good night innernets. (Drum, sleeping on my mouse pad.)

Churu time (from [Friday] night.) First I get the kittens to sit nicely and then I give them their Churu. (Sorry about the shaky camera work, I didn’t really think it through, it was a spur of the moment video decision!) They sure do love that stuff!
Hooray, hooray, Ouiser was adopted and went home today! She joins a family that includes older (kitty) brother Waffle – and she is now named Muffin! (We love a naming theme!) You can occasionally see her (and Waffle – and their (human) sisters!) on Facebook here, and on Instagram here. Happy life, sweet girl! 🧡
I just can’t believe what a sleek, glossy, GORGEOUS girl Shelby has turned out to be. 🖤
Good night innernets. (Drum & Clairee)
Hooray, hooray, Shelby was adopted and went home today… and she took a couple of friends with her. 😀 Yes, that’s right – Shelby, Drum AND Clairee were adopted together! They are on their way home to South Carolina right now, where they will join 4 kitty siblings. You can see them on Instagram here (it’s a private account – you can request to follow her, and she’ll accept it when she gets a chance!). (THANK YOU, Kara, for being so patient while I dragged Drum out from under the cabinet!)
Drum will likely be renamed Murphy, Clairee is possibly going to be Chloe, and Shelby will remain Shelby! Happy life, sweet babies! 🧡🧡🖤

Ouiser went home yesterday – she is now Muffin! – and here is the video of her pictures from the day she came to us – November 11th – until the day she left – January 17th. I forgot she was so little when she, Drum and Clairee came to join Shelby and M’Lynn!
Good night innernets. (Left to right: Louie, Dewey and Huey)

Love the photo of Drum with Rufous on the calendar in the background! Bet Drum looked a lot like that when tiny.
I’m so happy that Drum and Clairee went with Shelby. I’ve been in love with Drum from the beginning, but can’t get a new kitten now — I’ll be moving within the next year and really don’t want to drive two cats 1000 miles! — although I actually looked at a map to see how far the drive to your house would be (10 hours). It’s also funny that Drum was the scaredy-cat who hid from his new mama, because I have a history of adopting scaredy-cats!
Yaaaaay adopted kittoons! 😀 Oh my goodness, three kittens in one house; that’s going to be a triple addition of chaos, fun, and purrs. The happiest of lives to all four babies! I bet Drum is snuggling with his person in no time flat.
All the love to the teeny orange floofball Ducklings. Poop issues are the wooooorst.
Pete and Lucy look snug and happy.
Love the foster udpates!
So tickled to see all the Magnolias off to their new homes. Shout out to Sakana, who tagged teamed with you to get these kits ready to go. Shelby’s story – sniff, sniff – MizRobin you done good with that little one! Why do I think she is going to rule the roost?
