I NEEEEED that sign.. seriously need.. if you were any closer to me I would run right over there and steal it from you.
No need for stealin’! You can get your own here, at Amazon, or here at Hallmark.

I love how Archie is laying BETWEEN the 2 self heating pads.
He don’t need no stinkin’ heat! He’s a manly kittyman who generates his OWN heat by burning with hatred for Stefan (or so he’d like us to think).

I went to Cafepress but didn’t find the items you’ve sold there before. My husband accidently broke my Stompers shot glass. Is there any chance I’d still be able to get one somewhere?
You can find your Stompers gear over here.

Have you considered a futon sleeper chair for your 60″ wide space? Something like (this) or (this) ? (Well, ok, Mission style would probably be bad because kitten heads could get stuck in the slats, but…)
I looked at those, but I’d rather have something loveseat-sized that will mostly fill in the space. What I’m dreaming of is a This End Up type loveseat – they’re the right size, but prohibitively expensive. I think what’s going to end up happening is that I will spend the next year dithering and then just not get anything, because that’s how I roll.

I do have a question about the bed frame in the guest room. Is that an Eastlake antique piece? It looks similar to an Eastlake bed I had. Just curious.
That is, indeed, an Eastlake. Fred grew up sleeping in that bed – his parents bought it at an estate sale, and got a dresser that matches it. It’s spend the past 10 years or so hanging out in the upstairs of the garage at Crooked Acres, so it’s nice to be able to put it to use now. The cats certainly approve.

I have to share – I LOVE cats but they can have some nasty habits. 16 years ago we moved into a little house with our 2 young boys and 2 cats. It is unknown whether the previous owner had animals, and I know we didn’t have rodents. But after awhile my 2 cats began to occasionally pee into the floor vents!!! I am sure that once the first one did it, the second one took the cue to join. It was a horrible problem to put it mildly… We had to eventually quarantine one cat to the garage and outside (she peed on the couch when we got a puppy :-/ ) and the other cat finally quit using the floor vent for the litterbox. We got the duct work changed out and when we moved, we had to ultimately remove the subfloor plywood to completely remove any remains of the smell… I’d never experienced this before and the vet had no helpful explanation or tips beyond stress and clean, clean, clean… you and Fred seem to have model cats from heaven and I wouldn’t expect it but wondered if any one else had cats who either used the vents or found a spot in the house that was completely inappropriate. There is NOT MUCH ELSE worse than cat urine…
HA. Model cats from heaven we do not have, but (at least at this moment) we donβt have sprayers. Weβve never had any of them pee into the vents, but when Corbie was with us, he went through a stage where he sprayed a LOT. We covered all the furniture in washable pee pads, blocked off the areas where we were afraid heβd spray, and ultimately put him on Prozac for a couple of months, which finally worked. (The first thing we did was whisk him off to the vet to be sure the issue wasn’t something physical, of course. I had tried Feliway, Rescue Remedy and something elseβ¦ Oh! Zylkene, which at that time was only available from the UK, so I had to order directly from there. None of that worked, and a vet workup showed no physical issues, so Prozac it was.)

This comment made me laugh out loud:
I love how amazing Khal looks. It’s like fra la la here’s a pretty kitty and here’s a pretty kitty and oh yes don’t mind that collection of dark matter in the corner. It’s friendly.

Amazing story about a lost cat – returned after 15 years.
How cool is that!

It has occurred to me that Kara is a good role model for little girls. I’m sure the number of female sheriffs isn’t that high. With her being my Dora’s birth mother, I told Dora to reach for the sky. Her birth mother did it, so can she!
Girl power!

Love the quilt, where did she get the backing material? I do quilting, would love to use it, too!
She said she got it at Joann.

I don’t know how long he’s had them, but it wasn’t until one day last week that I realized Frankie has nose freckles. Adorable boy.
The corner of Fred’s office is still popular with the cats.
Is this Archie’s version of giving me the finger?

Happy Friday, y’all! Love all the questions, the answers, the pictures!!! Great way to start the day. BTW – in case I’m the only one, I wanted to interject a little earworm in order to share (and not be the only one… crazy can be lonely sometimes!)… So, when I read about Khal, in his window seat in Fred’s office, for some reason, I did not ‘read’ but instead sang (in my head – not out loud of course, because THAT would be CRAZY) ala Simon and Garfunkel… “Feelin’ Floofy…” complete with the the ba da da da da da da Feelin Floofy… happy Friday? y’all?
Feelin’ Floofy – that’s awesome!! Songs (old songs, new lyrics) come into my head ALL the time when I come here, like Floof Suit Riot, Wake Me Up (Skitterbug..), On the Sunny Side of the Bed. And last month I swear I could hear Perry Como singing, “Stinkerbelle, Stinkerbelle, it’s Christmas time for the kitties…” When IS the Love-and-Hisses: Unner da Missile Toez album coming out?? It has to have “(Are you the) Santa BAYbee” and a reading by Morgan Freeman: The kittens were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of Sugarbutt danced in their heads (and I dance, dance, dance, and I dance, dance, dance).
You guys are cracking me up! π
I hate loveseats. Hate them. Until my friend got one for her Dane. Cheapo frame and online foam mattress. Best thing ever!
I’d *prefer* to have a full-sized couch there, but there’s no roooom.
Love that Fred gets the pink cat beds in his office
We have a large number of pink beds for some reason! π
Just wanted to share my kitty story with you. I have Marley. He was semi feral when I adopted him from Shelter at 6 months old. Liter of 5 that was found outside. I dont let him out as I know he may not return. He is the quietest Siamese ever. 2years old now. We have a 8 year old lab as well. A ferret. 4 birds. Fish and most recently my youngest got a drawf hamster. Well at 10pm I had to tell him that the cat got his pet. I am so sorry. ( we had the cage bungee corded to the dresser to prevent cat for knocking it down. I guess the cat figured out the door) Imagine our surprise when my husband heard a sound in garage and the hamster came running to him! Guess Marley was just playing with him. (Torture? Ha ha) I think I just reached my max pet limit. Marley is a hunter…. birds are in a maximum security cage already. A story for another time.
Awww, I’m so glad Marley didn’t eat the hamster!!!
My first cat was a big orange boy named Cesar. He was a hunter too. Chipmunks, birds, mice, snakes – whatever. My brother brought his 2nd grade class pet, a gerbil, home to take care of over the weekend. Cesar sat right next to the cage until my mom put the gerbil in the basement “so it would be safe.” The gerbil didn’t survive the night. Never found any of him. Traumatized the entire 2nd grade class at Oakwood Elementary.
I am still SHOCKED TO DEATH every time I see Maxi calmly lounging in the house on a cat bed (or more importantly in Fred’s lap with Khal on Facebook)!
I know, it’s weird, isn’t it?
So the Fred, Maxi and Khal triangle has me intrigued! Khal and Maxi is just not a combo I imagined. Or maybe black cats just need to stick semi-close together! π
It’s crazy – what’s even weirder are the evenings when we’re watching TV and Fred has Maxi and ALICE on his lap at the same time. Maybe Maxi is mellowing out in her old age.
So you made me google “This End Up” love seats. You’ve probably already considered this, but my immediate reaction was “well, why can’t Fred just build one?” It may not look quite as fancy, but a plain box frame (maybe with storage underneath, but it looks like the foster room has that covered) with fabric covered foam cushions (You could even just wrap and pin the fabric for easy washing if you didn’t want to sew covers) seems doable. Or if Fred isn’t interested, I bet someone local would be able to make it for a fraction of the brand name. You could even cover the cushions with the same fabric that’s on the back of your quilt.
I have considered it, and mentioned it to Fred. I think I’ll have to KEEP mentioning it to Fred until he decides it’s his idea, whereupon he’ll be willing to do it. π
I love the description of Khal. And now I think ‘friendly collection of dark matter’ and/or ‘collection of friendly dark matter’ every time I see him. If I’m ever adopted by a black cat I will have to name it dark matter.
Haha, perfect!
I’m another one who *loved* both that original comment and the specific description of Khal. I think friendly collection of dark matter every time he turns up now, too!
… Khal in someone’s lap? Wow! π Sooooomebody’s failing to be feral. Hmm. I’m now wondering about the elusive Khal’s likely equally elusive purr. For whatever reason, I’m imagining a very soft, gentle purr. <3
So I went to order my replacement Stompers shot glass and ended up getting a large coffee mug and a Sugarbutt travel mug as well. LOL My husband will be so thrilled that I got yet another coffee and travel mug to add to our large collections. But these are special, so….
You can never have too much Stompers gear! π
Aww sleepy kitties, and nose freckles!
I had a kitty climb on top of me and lie down at 5am this morning (he sleeps on me and my flatmate when he thinks it’s breakfast time, which it was most decidedly not) and then he sneezed on my face. Not often i find myself snorting with laughter at 5am in the morning. So rude!
Aren’t they just the rudest? π
I think I’ll do up that sign in cross stitch; maybe subversive style!
Yes, please. Send it right over to me. PO Box 554 03753 thankyouverymuch π
and feel free to make it say kittens
Heehee! What color would you like?
Archie flippin’ you off is too funny. As much as I love the kittens you foster, seeing so many pictures of the spoiled Permies makes me happy!
So, as I was lying in bed trying to sleep last night (note to self – no Coke after 6pm, dumbass), I was trying to name all of the Permanent Residents in my head. I was trying to lull my brain to sleep and “settle” my mind by doing something meditative. Didn’t work. I was still awake at 2am. I *think* I got them all.
(Sweet mother of craaaap, Malcolm, why don’t you bury your sh*t like other cats?!! You must be able to smell that dump in Alabama! Dude, that is nasty.)
Ah yes. The “OMG cat what crawled up your rear end and died?” move. There’s been times when I’ve had company and we had to open a window because someone left something eyewatering in the litterbox.
I had to take my mature gentleman foster cat, Turtle, to the vet a few weeks ago for an ear infection. Turtle is an affable enough guy, but when the vet started examining his ears he got testy, so they had to sedate him. When he was coming out of sedation, he pooped in his carrier, so the techs brought me the towel that had been in the carrier in a trash bag.
I’m sitting in the waiting room and Turtle was still quite…fragrant. I said “Turtle, what have you been eating?” One of the techs immediately replied, “Small children.”
Turtle was adopted today, yay!
Yay for Turtle! Let’s hope he doesn’t munch on any more small children, lol.
I can not believe that This End Up is still a thing.. I haven’t seen that since the early 80s
If you are willing to travel to NY, you can get one for 150$ π https://www.ebay.com/itm/This-End-Up-Crate-Style-Loveseat-150-00/152736336545?hash=item238fcb8aa1:i:152736336545
